FibroLAN selects Vitesse for next-gen mobile backhaul platform

Mobile World Congress 2012, CAMARILLO, USA: Vitesse Semiconductor Corp. announced that FibroLAN is using Vitesse’s Caracal Carrier Ethernet Switch Engine (VSC7428) and quad-port IEEE1588v2 VSC8574 SimpliPHY 1G PHYs in its latest generation Ethernet Access Device (EAD) targeted at Metro Ethernet services delivery.

FibroLAN, a leading developer of integrated fiber-optic broadband access systems and Carrier Ethernet solutions, debuted its µFalcon-S platform for 4G/LTE mobile backhaul networks this month at the Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona, Spain.

“It was evident that Vitesse was the ideal choice to supply the Ethernet switch and transceiver for our newly introduced µFalcon-S Ethernet Access series,” said Shamir Stein, CEO of FibroLAN. “Vitesse’s Caracal switch engine and 1588v2 SimpliPHY seamlessly met the precise timing demands as well as its other Carrier Ethernet capabilities of our highly advanced application, without adding unnecessary complexity or increased cost to the design.”

Introduced in 2010 and 2011, respectively, the VSC7428 Caracal Switch Engine and VSC8574 quad-port GE PHY are part of Vitesse’s broad portfolio of IEEE1588v2 timing solutions for mobile backhaul and network IP Edge applications. Both devices deliver highly accurate timing synchronization and Operations, Administration and Maintenance (OAM) support, critical for Carriers implementing mobile backhaul and delivering MEF services over their access networks. Integrated with Vitesse’s EcoEthernet 2.0 green technology, both the switch and PHY exceed the IEEE 802.3az specifications requirements while delivering unprecedented energy efficiency.

“We are excited to be working with a best-in-breed mobile access systems provider like FibroLAN,” said Uday Mudoi, director of product marketing at Vitesse. “This agreement strengthens Vitesse’s position as the premier solutions provider for the IP Edge and small cell markets. Our technology enables customers such as FibroLAN to stay ahead of mobile networking requirements and advance technology in mobile backhaul. We are thrilled that our efforts to develop cutting-edge products with innovative features for Mobile Access are gaining recognition in the marketplace.”
