SMIC receives supplier award from Qualcomm

SHANGHAI, CHINA: Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp., China's largest and most advanced semiconductor foundry, announced its receipt of a 1 billion unit product milestone award from customer Qualcomm Inc. in a ceremony held at SMIC's Shanghai headquarters.

Qualcomm, the world leader in 3G and next-generation mobile technologies, gave the award to SMIC in recognition of its excellent track record of support for Qualcomm's power management processor. During the multi-year collaboration, SMIC has achieved over 1 billion unit shipments of power management processors with an outstanding delivery record over the past year.

"We are honored to receive this award from Qualcomm, which marks an important milestone for our collaboration on the power management processor," said SMIC CEO and executive director TY Chiu. "We greatly appreciate Qualcomm's trust in SMIC and will continue to be a valued partner in advanced technology and foundry services."

Jim Clifford, senior VP and GM of operations, Qualcomm, said: "SMIC has consistently demonstrated excellence in manufacturing quality, reliability and customer service since we began our collaboration in 2006. We are proud to work with SMIC to provide our customers with innovative products of the highest quality."

Prior to today's award, SMIC also earned Qualcomm's "Mixed Signal Foundry of the Year" award in 2007, as well as a "Continued Excellence Award" for power management support in 2009.
