LSI SAS technology powers over 200 new server models

MILPITAS, USA: LSI Corp. announced that its SAS storage solutions will power more than 200 new server models based on the recently announced Intel Xeon processor E5-2600 product family. Leading server manufacturers that have selected LSI 6Gb/s SAS and MegaRAID solutions to provide accelerated storage performance and enterprise data protection for their next-generation server platforms include Cisco, Dell, Fujitsu Technology Solutions, IBM, Intel, Lenovo and NEC.

"The escalating demands on IT in datacenters and cloud environments are driving the need for an optimal balance of performance, efficiency and costs," said Jim Pappas, Director of Technology Initiatives, Intel Corporation. "As new Intel Xeon processor E5-2600 product family-based platforms roll out with PCI Express 3.0 capability and LSI SAS technology, customers will benefit from systems designed to capitalize on the full performance potential of flash storage and the IT efficiency of virtualization."

"LSI SAS storage solutions integrated with servers based on the new Intel Xeon E5-2600 product family place LSI at the heart of the enterprise datacenter," said Bill Wuertz, senior vice president and general manager, RAID Storage Division, LSI. "We have shipped more than 30 million SAS ICs and close to 5 million SAS storage adapters, establishing LSI as the SAS provider of choice for the world's leading server manufacturers. As wide adoption of our 6Gb/s SAS technology continues, LSI will be in a strong position to support customers at the next critical inflection point, the 12Gb/s SAS rollout."

LSI announced the industry's first sample shipments of 12Gb/s SAS RAID-on-Chip (ROC), controller and expander ICs to server and external storage OEMs in mid-2011, underscoring LSI's leadership in the SAS market segment.
