IDT announces Serial RapidIO Gen2 system modeling tool

SAN JOSE, USA: Integrated Device Technology Inc. (IDT) has announced the availability of its new Serial RapidIO Gen2 system modeling tool. Using this new tool, designers and architects in various markets, including wireless infrastructure, military, imaging, video and storage, can now virtually create a new Serial RapidIO Gen1- or Gen2-based system.

Designers and system architects can rapidly and confidently design their entire system and avoid potential bottlenecks within the design by leveraging Serial RapidIO’s ability to support any topology. This allows designers to perfect the system virtually before creating a physical prototype, improving IDT customers’ design efficiency and speeding their time to market.

The new IDT Serial RapidIO Gen2 system modeling tool enables system designers to optimize the data — or traffic — that flows through the Serial RapidIO interconnect in a virtual environment before spending critical R&D dollars on physical prototypes. Using Serial RapidIO Gen2 in a design increases the raw bandwidth available in a system and also helps manage congestion while avoiding long-term traffic bottlenecks.

“As the leader in Serial RapidIO, IDT is committed to providing our customers with innovative RapidIO solutions for their next-generation designs and helping them overcome the potential bottlenecks in those designs,” said Ron Jew, general manager of the Flow Control Management business in the Communications division at IDT. “The new IDT system modeling tool helps our customers streamline product development by using Serial RapidIO-enabled components to support system traffic needs, which ultimately enables them to get their products to market faster.”

“Our DSPs are used in complex, data-intensive embedded networks to solve application needs in wireless, defense, video and imaging applications. By using the IDT RapidIO System Modeling Tool, our customers can maximize application-level performance,” said Kathy Brown, business manager for TI’s wireless base station infrastructure business.

“The performance of the RapidIO network and interfaces feed our devices with the maximum amount of data possible to leverage the performance of not only our multicore DSPs, but also the various application-specific embedded accelerators as well.”

The IDT Serial RapidIO Gen2 system modeling tool supports the IDT Gen1 switches as well as the forthcoming IDT Gen2 switches, allowing current RapidIO customers to investigate how their existing designs can evolve with the new Serial RapidIO Gen2 switches.

The system modeling tool also features an update of the IDT graphical user interface (GUI), which allows designers and architects to easily visualize traffic patterns in their system. The IDT GUI allows faster and more accurate architectural decision making, helping improve the design of the system and speeding the de-bugging process.

The new IDT Serial RapidIO Gen2 system modeling tool is currently available and free to qualified customers.
