SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA: Dongbu HiTek confirmed that high volume shipments of audio amplifier ICs are now underway to DMB Technology Co. Ltd, a fabless semiconductor company based in Korea.
Processed with BCDMOS technology at the 0.35-micron node, the audio amplifiers being manufactured at Dongbu HiTek’s world class fab are designed to operate at 5V instead of 12V to reduce power consumption.
According to Jae Song, VP of Sales & marketing for Dongbu HiTek, “DMB’s audio amplifier design demonstrates the real beauty of BCDMOS, which facilitates the efficient integration of analog and power management functions onto a single compact chip.” He noted that the DMB Technology devices will be targeting a broad range of consumer electronics where high high-fidellity audio amplification operating at low power is essential.
Founded in 2002, DMB Technology posted 2009 sales of 10 billion won up from 3.5 billion won in 2008. The Korean fabless company expects its rapid growth to continue, anticipating that its 2010 sales will reach 20 billion won.
The announcement highlights Dongbu HiTek’s sharpened focus on developing and supporting analog and mixed-signal chip designs. In addition to the BCDMOS amplifiers described in this release, the company has over the past year manufactured and shipped a variety of conversion chips including inverters and DC/DC converters as well as power management devices.
Dongbu HiTek expects to collaborate with DMB Technology in the development of other analog and mixed-signal devices including LED driver ICs.
Dongbu HiTek’s momentum as a specialist in advanced analog and BCDMOS technologies continues to build. After launching the industry’s first BCDMOS process at the 0.18 micron node in June 2008, the company is now working on medium voltage (less than 20V) and ultra-high voltage (more than 200V) BCDMOS as well as high performance analog CMOS processes.
