IXYS intros stud hermetic 1.2kV GTO thyristor

BIEL, SWITZERLAND: IXYS Corp. announced that its wholly owned UK subsidiary, Westcode Semiconductors Ltd, launched a new stud outline GTO thyristor, the 300A 1.2kV device which is an ideal replacement for obsolete devices used extensively in traction auxiliary equipment.

“Westcode’s unique processing capabilities and a call for help from our wide customer base initiated this development. The GTO thyristor is a new introduction using a die based on Westcode’s well established designs and symmetrical blocking vertical structure, enhanced with the latest processing technologies. The 25mm (0.98 inch) die is pressure contact mounted in a fully hermetic M20 threaded stud based package. The mechanical design is very robust with excellent vibration and shock resistance making it suitable for all high stress environments,” commented Frank Wakeman, Westcode’s Marketing and Technical Support Manager.

The device is electrically and mechanically compatible with long obsolete parts (like the IR type 84RDT-M), and with the 1.2kV Vdrm device available in two versions S0300SR12D (Vrrm 960V) and S0300SR12Y (Vrrm 100V). The device can also be supplied in a package outline equivalent to obsolete type 81RDT–M.

Helping customers in providing the only realistic alternative to replacement of equipment, applications for these devices include the maintenance or refurbishment of traction auxiliary equipment as well as all inverter applications where these obsolete devices have been installed.
