Wind River and Wurldtech to expand cyber-security services and offerings

SPS/IPC/DRIVES 2011, NUREMBERG, GERMANY: Wind River, a world leader in embedded and mobile software, and Wurldtech Security Technologies, a leading provider of cyber-security testing and certification solutions for critical industries, announced that Wind River is the first operating system vendor to be designated a Wurldtech Achilles Communications Certification partner.

Through this strategic relationship, Wind River will provide Achilles Level 1 cyber- security vulnerability testing for its customers in the process automation, power and energy, oil and gas, and transportation market segments so they may deploy products with certified defense against cyber-attacks.

The two companies first collaborated in 2010 when Wind River’s VxWorks became the first real-time operating system to be certified under Wurldtech's Achilles Communications Certification program. Since then, many of the world’s regulatory organizations and largest industrial companies have made Achilles Communications Certification a selection requirement. As an Achilles Communications Certification partner, Wind River will test and certify the complete customer-deployed system as customers build mission-critical systems on top of its Achilles-certified VxWorks platform.

“Wurldtech’s Achilles certification directly addresses cyber-security at a time when accessible, affordable, high-speed connectivity has created increased vulnerability to malicious cyber-attacks,” said Jens Wiegand, VP of industry solutions at Wind River. “Being able to provide our customers with this certification mark adds another level of independent verification to their cyber-security efforts. We are very pleased to continue to grow our suite of security-focused offerings and provide our customers with a comprehensive solution that aligns tightly with current and emerging industry standards.”

"The security and robustness of critical digital infrastructures must improve, given the evolving nature of cyber-risk," said Dr. Nate Kube, CTO of Wurldtech Security Technologies. "This collaboration with Wind River continues to build out our network robustness and security testing strategy as we address key challenges facing embedded device makers against cyber-attacks."
