Applied Materials appoints Aninda Moitra India country president

BANGALORE, INDIA: Applied Materials Inc. announced the appointment of Aninda Moitra as the Country President for Applied Materials India. Reporting to Manfred Kerschbaum, senior VP, Chief of Staff, Applied Materials, Moitra’s responsibilities include overseeing alignment, coordination and execution of Applied’s business, operational and strategic activities in the country.

Kerschbaum, joined by Dr. Randhir Thakur, executive VP and GM of Applied’s Silicon Systems Group, commented: “The India market is a growth priority for Applied, particularly in the solar space. Much of the product engineering design and software development for our business groups is done in India, and it is critical that we continue to drive a vision and strategy for success here. With Aninda’s experience, background, and track record, he is well-qualified to provide the leadership to achieve this goal.”

Moitra has been with Applied Materials for more than 15 years and has held a variety of positions with increasing responsibility. Most recently, he was Vice President and Account General Manager in the Silicon Systems Group. Prior to that, he held various other positions in sales, business development, and M&A integration management of the semiconductor business. Moitra earned an MBA from Columbia Business School in New York, and a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.

“The vibrant economy in India is propelling changes in the energy and semiconductor sectors,” said Moitra. “This is resulting in positive inflection points in both the semiconductor and solar industries in India and offers opportunities for growth. Applied Materials is focused on using our core competencies to help India achieve success in these markets.”
