Precise Biometrics and NXP enter partnership

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN: Precise Biometrics and NXP have signed a partnership agreement to enable NXP to include Precise Match-on-Card on their smart-card chips. The partnership enables NXP to provide Precise Biometrics’ industry-leading on-card fingerprint comparison technology on the chips used on smart identification cards.

NXP Semiconductors N.V. is a leading semiconductor company with about 30,000 employees working in more than 20 countries. Their contact and contactless Smart Chips are sold in a variety of industries, including national ID programs, government, IT, and security.

NXP’s partnership with Precise Biometrics will allow the Precise Match-on-Card technology to be used on NXP’s Smart Chips. Precise Match-on-Card enables the fingerprint to be stored on the card and securely matches the fingerprint directly on the card itself. This biometric verification reduces fraud, protects personal data and provides a strong authentication of identity.

Precise Match-on-Card has a successful track record of implementations, with its Precise Match-on-Card currently in use on six national ID projects including Nigeria, Portugal, Qatar, Bahrain, Thailand, and Venezuela. It is also used in both physical and logical access control credentials and employee ID cards in both the private and public sectors.

Precise Biometrics CEO, Thomas Marschall, said: “Precise Match-on-Card is a superior and proven on-card comparison choice that supports the commitment of NXP to its customers for technology they can rely on. Our partnership with NXP will give customers a choice that combines best-of-class offerings in both Smart Chips and on-card comparison technology. We believe that NXP, together with Precise Biometrics, will further their lead in offering customers the best, most secure, solutions in Match-on-Card. We expect to see the first financial results of this partnership late 2011 or in 2012.”

NXP is a leading semiconductor company. Its innovations are used in a range of applications, such as identification, wireless infrastructure, lighting, industrial, mobile, consumer and computing applications. NXP posted revenue of $4.4 billion in 2010.
