Tessera licenses OptiML zoom solution to Samsung

SAN JOSE, USA: Tessera Technologies Inc. announced that the System LSI Division of Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. has licensed Tessera’s OptiML Zoom image enhancement solution, which provides high quality 3X zoom capabilities, without moving parts, for miniature cameras.

Camera modules which incorporate this technology will enable high-quality zoom functionality in cell phones, portable video recorders and other camera-equipped mobile devices.

Tessera’s OptiML Zoom technology combines unique lens designs with specialized algorithms to provide a high-performance zoom solution which is smaller, more cost-effective, easier to manufacture and more reliable than conventional mechanical zoom solutions.

“Samsung has been offering high-quality CMOS imagers to the market place, and the cell phone market demands not only crisp, clear images, but also more advanced imaging technologies like 3X zoom,” said Dojun Rhee, vice president, marketing team, System LSI Division, Samsung Electronics. “With OptiML Zoom image enhancement technology for 3X Zoom, we continue to enhance our capabilities and provide more value for our customers.”
