XMOS user community reaches over 1,000 registered developers

BRISTOL, UK & BURLINGAME, USA: XMOS, developer of the industry’s first event-driven 32-bit embedded processor, announced that it has passed a major milestone with the 1,000th registration on the popular xcore.com developer community site.

Users of the website can take advantage of a host of XMOS-related developer resources including shared project implementation ideas, a community-driven discussion forum, and immediate access to the recently implemented collaborative open source program.

Support for the newly created open source library will speed the development of a wide-range of embedded products using XMOS event-driven processors. Unlike traditional interrupt-driven processors such as ARM, MIPS and Intel, the event-driven XMOS architecture enables systems, including peripherals, to be quickly and reliably built from high-level “C” code components – not as silicon gates.

To date, XMOS has contributed more than 10 software components to the open source project including an Ethernet MAC, S/PDIF interface and a complete TCP/IP stack. Community members have also contributed software intellectual property (IP) to the recently launched project.

"The new XMOS Open Source Library is a significant resource with valuable IP from both XMOS and the community," said Mikael Bohman, an XCore community member. "It is a model response to address how embedded developers can quickly and efficiently get products to market through collaborative development and rapid enhancement."

“We have been very pleased with the rapid growth of the XCore community. We are looking forward to seeing the new XCore Open Source Project grow quickly with significant intellectual property that is contributed, exchanged and enhanced by XMOS silicon users around the world,” said Joerg Bertholdt, vice president of marketing at XMOS.
