KENT, UK: Following the tragic events in Japan semiconductor analyst Future Horizons has postponed its annual International Electronics Forum which was planned for May 4-6 in Marrakech, Morocco.
Malcolm Penn, chairman and CEO, said: "As a mark of respect, both to Japan and our industry, I have taken the decision to postpone the forthcoming IEF2011 to the autumn, when hopefully the situation will be more settled. The events of the past weeks in Japan have been deeply saddening and shocking. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of our friends and business colleagues there, as well as with the Japanese nation as a whole."
Future Horizons maintains that although the immediate tragedy is Japan's, the longer term consequences include questions on structural risks and imperfections in the global electronics industry eco-system. These issues were already starting to materialise and were the motivation behind the theme for this year's Forum.
Penn concluded: "I have discussed this matter with speakers and sponsors and delaying the Forum will not only allow us to show our respects for Japan, it will also provide breathing space for industry to get back on its feet and time to reflect on the potential repercussions of these broader structural issues."
The revised date will be announced as soon as it becomes available.
