MILPITAS, USA: Sigma Designs, a leading provider of System-on-Chip (SoC) solutions used to deliver entertainment and control throughout the home, announced that the SMP8653 secure media processor is the first and only media processor powering wireless PC-to-TV display devices. NETGEAR’s Push2TV adapter uses Sigma’s chipset to display content from Intel Wireless Display enabled notebook PCs on the big screen HD-TV, wirelessly.
The market for wireless PC to TV display devices is growing fast. More than 40 laptops available today come with Intel Wireless Display technology and the number of supported laptops is expected to grow significantly next year. This broad market penetration creates a unique opportunity for companies to develop products with the ability to wirelessly stream PC content to the TV. Only Sigma’s media processors leverage this groundbreaking technology and address this new market.
The solution requires only two pieces – a Sigma-powered adapter, such as the NETGEAR Push2TV, and a new-generation notebook powered by the Intel Core processor family with Intel Wireless Display. Intel Wireless Display captures fully rendered display frames and wirelessly sends the compressed video and audio wirelessly to the Sigma-powered adapter that is connected to the TV.
Using Sigma’s SMP8653 media decoder technology, NETGEAR’s Push2TV wirelessly communicates with a laptop with Intel Wireless Display to extend the end user’s PC browsing and viewing experience to the TV wirelessly.
Once the NETGEAR Push2TV is connected to the TV, there is only a quick set-up process to create a wireless connection with the laptop. The adapter is designed to connect to a wide variety of TVs using either HDMI or A/V cables. Consumers benefit from this fully integrated PC-to-TV solution without having to plug any external components or dongles into their notebook computer or learn a new user interface.
“Sigma delivers cutting-edge technology to our customers so they can deliver innovation to theirs. Using our chipset, NETGEAR is pioneering a new market opportunity where consumers can take their laptop and stream content, wirelessly, to their TV,” said David Lynch, vice president and general manager, media processor division at Sigma Designs.
“Very soon, there will be literally millions of PCs containing Intel Core processors that will be able to connect to a TV using solutions like this. This represents an entirely new category of home entertainment network products powered by Sigma’s media processors.”
