SAN JOSE, USA: Micrel Inc. has rolled out its SuperSwitcher II family of integrated MOSFET buck regulators for high power density DC-DC applications.
The MIC26xxx SuperSwitcher II family is comprised of three DC-DC buck regulators featuring Micrel's proprietary Hyper Speed Control architecture. The MIC26400, MIC26600 and MIC26950 devices operate with an input supply voltage range from 4.5V to 26V and deliver an output current of 5A, 7A and 12A, respectively.
The SuperSwitcher II family has been tailored to be Any Capacitor stable and independent of output ESR, thus solving the perennial problem of stability that power designers faced with distributed output capacitance. The MIC26400, MIC26600 and the MIC26950 are currently available in volume quantities, with 1,000 quantity pricing starting at $1.82 /$2.20/ $2.77 respectively.
"Coupled with a high level of integration in a small form factor, the SuperSwitcher II family delivers uncompromising performance, reduces cycle time, size and costs," noted Andrew Cowell, vice president, analog marketing for Micrel.
"Leveraging our proprietary Hyper Speed Control architecture and innovative packaging, these devices are characterized with very low rds(on), to deliver increased efficiency and thermal performance over the entire load," noted Doyle Slack, senior marketing director for analog power, Micrel. "Micrel's SuperSwitcher II family allows easy migration into applications where increased current levels or improved thermal performance is required."
The SuperSwitcher II family of buck regulators are capable of driving DC-DC loads at more than 95 percent efficiency with +/-1 percent accuracy, with output adjustable down to 0.8V. Micrel's proprietary Hyper Speed Control control architecture allows for ultra fast transient response requiring significantly lower output capacitance.
These devices operate at a switching frequency of 300kHz and deliver very high efficiency across the DC load spectrum. The SuperSwitcher II family features an enable pin for very low power shutdown, internal soft start, undervoltage lockout, internal compensation and a host of protection features such as prebias safe startup, over temperature protection, foldback current limit and short circuit protection.
The MIC26400, MIC26600 and the MIC26950 buck regulators are available in a thermally enhanced lead free 28-Lead 5mm x 6mm MLF package.
