TECOM selects PMC-Sierra solutions for GPON ONT equipment for European FTTH markets

SANTA CLARA, USA: PMC-Sierra Inc. announced that TECOM, a broadband equipment manufacturer based in Taiwan, has selected PMC-Sierra’s solutions for its new GPON Optical Network Terminal (ONT) designs.

TECOM’s Mini GPON Gigabit ONT is built around PMC-Sierra’s PAS7400 SoC and targets residential and SOHO deployments that require maximum performance, high quality of service and small form factors.

“Our products must provide the highest quality of service at GbE speeds and fit into small form factor designs in order to meet European customers’ requirements,” said Kevin Shen, director of product line management, TECOM.

“TECOM selected PMC-Sierra’s field-proven GPON ONT SoC and OMCI software because it is the best solution for these requirements, and it allowed us to get a complete product to market quickly. TECOM’s Mini GPON Gigabit ONT provides multiple high-quality data, voice and video applications to end users and can connect to any GPON Optical Line Terminal that carriers deploy.”

TECOM’s new Mini GPON ONT targets European FTTH markets, which require triple-play quality of service to the customer at Gigabit Ethernet wire speed to the home. The ONT features a GbE user interface and supports 2.5G downstream traffic to the customer at any packet size.

It is based on PMC-Sierra’s PAS7400 GPON ONT SoC and OMCI software package, which has proven to be interoperable with all major Optical Line Terminals (OLT) on the market at numerous interoperability events.

“PMC-Sierra continues to expand its base of GPON customers, and TECOM is an important addition,” said Raphael Sankar, vice president and co-general manager for PMC-Sierra’s FTTH division.

“With superior performance and ready-to-use software, our GPON ONT and OLT silicon solutions are widely deployed by carriers and equipment manufacturers worldwide. PMC-Sierra is building on its position as the dominant FTTH silicon solution provider addressing the EPON, GPON, 10G-EPON and XGPON markets.”
