Qualcomm and Infineon lead cellular transceiver market

BOSTON, USA: Qualcomm and Infineon held the top-two positions in cellular transceivers, according to the Strategy Analytics RF & Wireless Component market research service report, “Transceiver Market Share Update: Qualcomm and MediaTek Gain Share in UMTS and GSM/GPRS/EDGE Respectively.”

The comprehensive multi-sheet data table shows market share for the top ten transceiver vendors by air interface and customer in dollar and unit terms.

According to Christopher Taylor, author of the report, “Market leader, Qualcomm, gained share with the growth of UMTS, while MediaTek gained share in GSM/GPRS/EDGE – much of this in grey market handsets.”

Stephen Entwistle, VP of the Strategic Technologies market research practice at Strategy Analytics, added, “Infineon ranked second in transceiver share on the strength of its leading-edge transceiver designs, in addition to gains it made in chipset share in 2009.”
