Mindspeed's Comcerto 100 processor enables Teldat to combine router and app server in one platform

NEWPORT BEACH, USA: Mindspeed Technologies Inc. announced that the company’s Comcerto 100 Series broadband gateway packet processor has enabled Teldat to develop an advanced residential gateway for fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) networks.

The iRouter gateway delivers triple-play services to and throughout the home while simultaneously supporting remotely-managed value-added applications from carriers and third-party providers.

A leading European manufacturer of broadband equipment, Teldat has established itself as the main international supplier for the Telefónica Group, and is also working with more than 15 carriers worldwide.

The company’s iRouter gateway is designed to increase per-user carrier revenues by integrating a wire-speed Gigabit triple-play home multimedia gateway with an open platform that can be augmented with such applications as home automation, secure remote access, integrated in-home cellular telephony, telepresence and teleassistance services, network backup, multimedia content management and streaming to home PCs and televisions.

“The Teldat iRouter 1214 gateway takes advantage of Mindspeed’s Comcerto 100 technology to forge new territory in advanced digital home entertainment and networking, with an unbeatable performance to price ratio,” said Ignatius De Loizaga, vice president of marketing at Teldat.

“The Comcerto 100 device’s dual-core architecture allows the iRouter gateway to use one processor to run service provider managed applications, and the other to deliver and distribute triple-play multi-room high definition (HD) video, voice/telephony and broadband data content inside the home, at gigabit wire speed with unequaled quality of service.”

Teldat’s iRouter 1214 residential gateway uses Mindspeed’s Comcerto 100 processor to give carriers and ISPs a high-performance, feature-rich platform for delivering triple-play services to their subscribers. At the same time, Mindspeed’s Comcerto 100 device gives the iRouter gateway the necessary processing power to run service provider deployed services using the OSGi framework.

The Comcerto 100 processor also helps drive Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) media sharing across a broad array of home-network systems and devices, and optimizes throughput and quality of service (QoS) across all of the iRouter’s extensive local interfaces for 802.11n Wi-Fi networking (optionally tuned for HD video distribution), Gigabit Ethernet switching, voice-over-IP (VoIP), digital enhanced cordless telecommunications (DECT) CAT-iq 2.0 telephony and optionally USB-based Bluetooth, 3G or ZigBee connectivity.

“The Comcerto 100 processor is the ideal technology platform for helping Teldat to realize its vision of a powerful new residential gateway for next-generation fiber networks,” said Marco Bello, director of CPE marketing and product management with Mindspeed.

“Teldat has used the Comcerto 100 processor to achieve a gateway design that combines Gigabit Ethernet connectivity for triple-play service delivery to the home with unparalleled local user connectivity and networking performance for media-sharing inside the home. We are excited to be part of this ground-breaking advance in the digital-home infrastructure.”

The Comcerto 100 processor also optimizes the energy efficiency of the Teldat iRouter gateway which meets the requirements of the European Code of Conduct on Energy Consumption of Broadband Equipment.

Comcerto 100 processors use energy-efficient ARM core technology to deliver the lowest power consumption in their class, and also incorporates advanced, programmable power-management features to support the energy-saving goals of service providers and product manufacturers worldwide.
