ViXS teams with MIPS for high-performance processors for advanced multimedia apps

LAS VEGAS, USA: ViXS Systems Inc. has partnered with MIPS Technologies Inc. to enable advanced set-top box, connected TV, Blu-ray disc and video network processor applications including transcoding functionality using the MIPS32 74K and 1004K platforms.

A global leader in innovative and advanced networked multimedia solutions, ViXS has leveraged these platforms to help customers develop next-generation IPTV and cable set-top boxes (STBs), advanced multimedia gateways and Blu-ray disc players/recorders -- markets where MIPS Technologies holds the number one market position.

According to research firm Parks Associates, demand for interactive and personalized television services are expected to push annual worldwide set-top box shipments over 200 million by 2013, as providers overhaul their current base with next-generation models capable of supporting applications such as time- and place-shifting and Internet-based offerings.
