DDC-I announces Deos RTOS support for AMCC PowerPC 440 Core

PHOENIX, USA: DDC-I, a leading supplier of software and professional services for safety-critical applications, announced today that it will make its Deos safety-critical real-time operating system and OpenArbor development tool suite available for applications using AMCC’s (now AppliedMicro) PowerPC 440 core.

Deos and OpenArbor will also be available out of the box for Embedded Planet’s EP440C single-board computer, which provides a development and prototyping environment for applications targeting the PowerPC 440EP processor.

The Deos RTOS running atop AMCC PowerPC 440 processors provides an ideal platform for developing and hosting mil/aero and other safety-critical applications, particularly those requiring high design assurance and timely DO-178B certification.

Deos is the industry’s most robust, highest performance COTS RTOS for high-reliability and safety-critical applications. Featuring fully-bounded real-time response, guaranteed execution and full memory address protection, the RTOS employs patented “slack scheduling” to deliver higher CPU utilization than any other safety-critical certifiable COTS RTOS.

Deos is the only time and space partitioned COTS RTOS built from the ground up for safety-critical applications. It has been certified to DO-178B Level A (the highest FAA level of safety criticality) in dozens of programs, and flies on more commercial and military airframes than any other certifiable COTS RTOS.

“Deos provides the lowest risk, lowest cost, and fastest path to FAA certification of any certifiable COTS RTOS,” said Greg Rose, vice president of marketing at DDC-I. “It also provides unique slack scheduling capabilities that enable developers to take full advantage of the performance of AMCC’s PowerPC processors in a safety-critical environment. We look forward to working with AMCC and our customers to create best-in-class safety-critical platforms that combine our industry leading DO-178B certifiable Deos RTOS with AMCC’s versatile PowerPC processors.”

“AMCC’s PowerPC 440 processors provide a unique blend of high performance and low power coupled with rich I/O, networking and multimedia functionality,” added Chris Bergen, director of systems engineering at AMCC. “DDC-I’s Deos RTOS provides an excellent platform for developing, hosting, and certifying a broad range of safety-critical applications targeting our world class PowerPC processors.”

The AMCC PowerPC 440 is a family of high-performance, 32-bit processors based on the Book E Enhanced PowerPC Architecture. Supporting speeds of up to 533 MHz, the low-power, small-form-factor processors feature a superscalar PowerPC 440 core with large L1 caches and high-speed IBM CoreConnect bus technology.

Development support for Deos includes DDC-I’s Eclipse-based, mixed language OpenArbor IDE, which features C and C++ optimizing compilers, a color-coded source editor, project management support, automated build utilities, and a mixed-language, multi-window, symbolic debugger. OpenArbor also provides broad run-time target options, from the robust Deos RTOS through minimal bare-board run-time systems.
