NetLogic Microsystems achieves 400th issued US patent

MOUNTAIN VIEW, USA: NetLogic Microsystems Inc., a leader in high-performance intelligent semiconductor solutions for next-generation Internet networks, has been awarded its 400th United States patent.

NetLogic Microsystems’ portfolio includes over 600 worldwide patent issuances and pending filings. These achievements mark a significant milestone in the company’s history of being at the forefront of technological and innovation leadership in high-performance semiconductor solutions that perform highly differentiated tasks for advanced 3G/4G mobile wireless infrastructure, data center, enterprise, metro Ethernet, edge and core infrastructure networks.

NetLogic Microsystems’ market-leading portfolio of high-performance knowledge-based processors, multi-core processors, Layer 7 content processors, 10-to-100 Gigabit Ethernet physical-layer (PHY) and ultra low-power embedded processor solutions are being deployed by Tier 1 OEMs in leading systems such as switches, routers, wireless base stations, security appliances, networked storage appliances, service gateways and connected media devices.

The growing breadth, depth and diversity of NetLogic Microsystems’ patent portfolio enable NetLogic Microsystems to continue to expand its market leadership and to offer customers highly differentiated products. NetLogic Microsystems’ broad patent portfolio includes architectural and high-speed circuit innovations for multi-core processing, knowledge-based processing, content processing and 10G physical layer; advanced power management; superscalar pipelining, error detection and correction, and asynchronous timing techniques.

“We pride ourselves in fostering a culture of innovation to attract and keep some of the world’s most talented engineers at NetLogic Microsystems as we continue to raise the bar in developing some of the industry’s most advanced and complex semiconductor products,” said Dr. Varad Srinivasan, chief technology officer at NetLogic Microsystems. “The power of our intellectual property portfolio enables us to further separate ourselves from the competition in delivering products for next-generation carrier-class, enterprise and data center applications.”

“We have a culture and fundamental philosophy of continually pushing the envelope on high-speed circuit and architectural innovations beyond the current state-of-the-art,” said Stefanos Sidiropoulos, vice president of Physical Layer Products at NetLogic Microsystems. “This has allowed us to stay on the leading edge of developing the industry’s best-in-class 10 Gigabit, 40 Gigabit and 100 Gigabit physical layer products.”

“The breadth as well as the depth of our intellectual property base provides us with a platform for innovation that is virtually unbeatable,” said David Hass, vice president of Processor Architecture at NetLogic Microsystems. “In addition, the enhanced resources of NetLogic Microsystems has enabled us to accelerate the development of our next-generation processor cores in the advanced 28nm node, and will allow us to accelerate our patent filings on multi-core processing in 2010 and beyond.”

In recognition of NetLogic Microsystems’ strong track record of innovation and intellectual property portfolio, the company has been previously recognized as having one of the most powerful patent portfolios and pipelines in the semiconductor industry by the IEEE Spectrum magazine.

NetLogic Microsystems continues to innovate at the highest level of any worldwide technology company, with an issued patent-to-employee ratio approaching 1.0, which is rarely attained by any company of its size.
