Liquavista collaborates with TI to fuel next-generation eReader advancements

EINDHOVEN, THE NETHERLANDS: Liquavista BV has announced a collaboration with Texas Instruments Inc. (TI) As part of a series of system development kit (SDK) releases intended to support adoption of Liquavista’s electrowetting displays across a broad range of mobile and consumer applications, Liquavista is working closely with TI to integrate Liquavista’s technology as part of TI’s current OMAP(TM) processor-based eBook development platform offering.

"Liquavista's aim is to make its electrowetting display technology available as broadly as possible to end-consumers via a wide range of products," said Guy Demuynck, CEO, Liquavista. "We are thrilled to be working with TI on the latest release of its leading OMAP 3 processors. We believe this is the best way possible of making advanced mobile devices available across all applications!"

“Liquavista’s promising solutions will introduce many benefits to the mobile consumer market, including cost and power savings, brighter user interfaces, and more intuitive responsiveness for display technologies,” said Elie Belmand, general manager of TI’s mobile consumer business. “We look forward to working with Liquavista as they bring the next generation of color eReaders to consumers across the globe.”

The newly-announced OMAP processor-based eBook development platform targets next-generation eReader product reference architectures with ultra-low power dynamic interfaces. The development platform was designed to enable fast product concepting and the creative development of end-products that benefit from the key features enabled by Liquavista’s revolutionary electrowetting display technology.

Liquavista is developing three technology platforms, namely, LiquavistaBright, LiquavistaColor and LiquavistaVivid, based on a new type of electronic screen technology for use in eReaders, mobile phones, media players, and other mobile devices. Liquavista’s displays create bright and colourful images that deliver excellent indoor and outdoor viewability and use dramatically less battery power.

Its first technology platform, launched in October, LiquavistaBright enables a smooth and fast user interface on eReader devices, thanks to its inherent video capability.

Offering a unique combination of outstanding brightness and high contrast in all lighting conditions; excellent legibility and functional freedom, LiquavistaBright combines the durable eBook with a new multimedia experience – one of the most requested benefits of existing and future consumers.

Liquavista will demonstrate LiquavistaBright, LiquavistaColor and future generations of the technology platforms on stand 12041 at CES 2010.
