GCT Semiconductor announces WiMAX single-chip supporting all WiMAX frequency bands for global roaming

LAS VEGAS, USA: GCT Semiconductor, a leading supplier of Mobile WiMAX solutions to the global market, today announced a mobile WiMAX Wave 2 triple-band single-chip, GDM7221, which integrates baseband and RF, while supporting 2.3GHz, 2.5GHz and 3.5GHz frequency bands.

This highly integrated single-chip offers a small form factor, low power consumption and high performance solution to ODMs who are developing devices that support all three bands, a major attraction for WiMAX operators worldwide that want to offer roaming capability.

GDM7221 is compliant with WiMAX Forum standards and is ideally suited for multi-band USB dongles, WiMAX mini-cards and embedded SDIO modules. This solution is the next generation on GCT’s roadmap and offers higher throughput to support HARQ category 5 and 6, lower power consumption, and integrated USB 2.0 PHY, all in a single 65nm die. GDM7221 is currently being sampled to selective key customers.

“We continue to develop single-chip solutions that offer the smallest form factor and lowest power consumption in the industry,” commented Dr. Kyeongho “KH” Lee, President and CEO of GCT Semiconductor.

“This new advanced and highly integrated solution demonstrates GCT’s dedication to advance the WiMAX ecosystem and offers real solutions to WiMAX operators worldwide and their suppliers. GDM7221 will scale down the overall bill of materials, provide further reduction of power consumption and allow the production of all-band WiMAX devices with higher throughput.”
