Impact of Tohoku district Pacific offshore earthquake on Toshiba

JAPAN: Toshiba would like to inform everyone of the current situation at its production facilities in the aftermath of the earthquakes from the afternoon of March 11.

1) IWATE TOSHIBA ELECTRONICS

Location: Kitakami City, Iwate Prefecture

Magnitude in Kitakami City: 5+ (Japanese scale*)

Personnel
No casualties

Public Infrastructure
Power lost; limited partial recovery from March 13.
Limited recovery of telecommunications infrastructure.

Building and Power 
The building was damaged in various places, but not badly.
Currently still under investigation.

Operations and Production
Operation stopped. Clean room status now being investigated, following partial recovery of power supply.

2) TOSHIBA COMPONENTS

Location: Kimitsu City, Mobara City, Chiba Prefecture

Magnitude in Kitmitsu, Mobara City: 4.7 - 4.9 (Japanese scale*)

Personnel
No casualties

Public Infrastructure
Rotating controlled power outages.

Building and Power
The building is partly but not badly damaged.
Currently still under investigation.

Operations and Production
Operation stopped, status now being investigated.

3) YOKKAICHI OPERATIONS

Location: Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture

Yokkaichi factory is now operating as usual, although some production equipment stopped for a short period of time, as mentioned in the previous report.
A mid-term impact on the overall supply chain, including material procurement, is anticipated, as are short-term problems with logistics.

Toshiba continue to carry out a detailed investigation of the status of the plants and their recovery. It will contact again after this has been completed.
