USA: The Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA) has released the February statistics from its global semiconductor funding, IPO and M&A update. This includes:
* In February 2011, four semiconductor companies (i.e., fabless companies and semiconductor suppliers) raised $30.2 million, a dollar amount decrease of 83.7 percent from January 2011 and 49.5 percent from February 2010.
* The number of deals closed decreased by six month-over-month (MoM) and five year-over-year (YoY).
* On February 11, 2011, Texas-based Freescale Semiconductor filed a $1.2 billion initial public offering (IPO). This is the first semiconductor IPO filing in 2011.
* On February 18, 2011, South Korea-based MagnaChip Semiconductor announced that it had filed an IPO in the US, marking the third time the company has attempted to go public. On March 10, 2011, the company priced its IPO, raising $133 million.
* In February 2011, eight semiconductor mergers and acquisitions (M&As) were announced (i.e., M&As of entire fabless, integrated device manufacturer (IDM) and semiconductor supplier companies, not sectors/product lines or foundry facilities). All eight of these M&As involved a fabless company or IDM.
