iWatt signs Component Distributors as North American distributor

LOS GATOS, USA: iWatt Inc., a developer of energy-efficient digital power supply control integrated circuits (ICs) used in leading-edge power supplies, announced that it has signed Denver, Colorado-based Component Distributors, Inc. (CDI) as its North American distribution partner. The high tech distributor specializes in electronic components with substantial experience in the AC-DC power conversion market.

Joining iWatt’s salesforce are 17 of CDI’s field sales and technical support personnel. Training occurred on August 9 and joint customer visits followed.

iWatt’s AC-DC power management devices are currently the industry’s only ICs that use digital algorithms to replace traditional analog control. John Williammee, president of CDI, explained how iWatt’s unique digital power control technology benefits industrial and consumer device manufacturers.

“When used in a power supply for light-emitting diode (LED) lighting, LED-backlit LCD televisions, motor controls, adapters, chargers, and other devices, the technology can reduce the size and cost of devices, and the amount of energy they consume.”

Williammee went on to explain that in LED solid state lighting applications, iWatt’s digital control technology delivers some specific benefits, such as dimmer compatibility and dual-stage control for flicker-free dimmable lamps.

iWatt’s president and CEO, Ron Edgerton, expects the partnership with CDI to expand iWatt’s market share in low-power AC-DC applications. “CDI’s experienced AC-DC sales team is a great match for our product line,” said Edgerton. “With a broad base of North American OEM customers in iWatt’s target markets, CDI will help us achieve design wins in the Smart Grid, LED lighting, industrial motor control, and other key markets.”
