Fujitsu Semiconductor releases three 32-bit MCU products for high speed motor control

SINGAPORE: Fujitsu Semiconductor Asia Pte Ltd (FSAL) announced three products from the "MB91580 series," which contain driving motor control function for Electrical Vehicles (EV) and Hybrid Vehicles (HV) as part of the high-performance 32-bit FLASH embedded microcontroller (MCU) "FR family". Sample delivery has started since the end of April 2011.

The "MB91580 series" supports the demand for an automotive driving motor control MCU with a dedicated embedded resolver sensor interface to control the three-phase motor used in EV’s and HV’s, where demand is growing rapidly and globally. This is first time that Fujitsu Semiconductor is delivering driving motor control LSI for eco-cars and supporting demand from the market.

Nowadays, the interest in protecting and preserving the Earth’s environment is increasing. Likewise, the demand for eco-cars such as electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles are increasing along with calls for the reduction of exhaust gases that adversely affect air quality. To further drive the adoption of eco-vehicles, Fujitsu foresees that three innovations, namely the improved mobility of motors, reduction in energy consumption, and system cost reduction will be required.

Fujitsu’s 32-bit MCU "MB91580 series" for driving motor control will be able to support such demand quickly and has already begun shipping since the end of April 2011.

The "MB91580 series" contains the most suitable CPU core and peripherals for EV/HV motor control. The dedicated interface circuit in the resolver used for the EV/HV driving motor is embedded in order to achieve system cost reduction as well as contribute to improving motor mobility and reduce energy consumption by realizing a high torque responsive control process which is required for the EV/HV driving motor.
