Symwave, Fresco Logic achieve unsurpassed levels for real-life USB 3.0 performance

IDF 2010, SAN FRANCISCO, USA: Symwave, a leading silicon supplier of system solutions for SuperSpeed USB devices, and Fresco Logic, a leading developer of SuperSpeed USB host controllers, announced their successful demonstration of the world’s highest performance USB 3.0 system achieving over 370MB/s.

In this real-world demonstration using a commercially available PC, the Fresco FL1009 Host controller is connected to a USB 3.0 external storage device controlled by Symwave’s SW6318 USB 3.0 SuperSpeed RAID Storage controller, and a pair of solid state drives (SSDs).

This benchmark performance is achievable using Fresco’s xHCI 1.0 bus driver and an enhanced mass storage driver provided by Symwave or MCCI. Fresco Logic and Symwave have been collaborating for over a year, with a focus on maximizing the real performance of SuperSpeed USB products.

“Symwave has been a pioneer in achieving the industry’s highest performance USB 3.0 storage solutions,” said Robert McVay, CTO, Fresco Logic. “As the provider of the world’s first USB 3.0 integrated RAID controller, along with world-class performance enhancing software, Symwave’s unique experience allows us to demonstrate the industry-leading capabilities of our latest host controller.“

“It has been an exciting collaboration with Fresco Logic. Their host controller has redefined the boundaries of SuperSpeed performance, enabling us to unleash the performance of our storage solutions,” said Christopher Thomas, founder and chief technical office, Symwave. “Fresco Logic will continue to be a critical partner as we work together to accelerate the migration to USB 3.0 as the ubiquitous worldwide connectivity technology.”
