Nuvoton intros industry’s lowest-cost voice/audio IC for range of playback apps

SAN JOSE, USA: Nuvoton Technology Corp., a leading provider of semiconductors for consumer and computing applications, introduced the ChipCorder ISD15D00, the industry’s lowest-cost voice-playback device for industrial, medical and automotive applications.

The ISD15D00’s highly integrated architecture – 2.7V- to 5.5V operating voltage; 3-volt regulator for external flash memory, requiring no regulator; and 1W speaker driver, eliminating the need for an amplifier -- was designed to provide powerful yet efficient voice playback in applications ranging from automobile electronics to home appliances to medical equipments to industrial systems.

Because of this unmatched level of integration, manufacturers using the ISD15D00 require fewer additional components and realize the industry’s lowest bill-of-material (BOM) costs, along with a faster time to market.

The newest member of Nuvoton’s highly successful ChipCorder family of voice chips, the ISD15D00 enables a new generation of automotive, medical and industrial applications, which typically require more audio output power, to provide users with essential pre-recorded information.

In automotive applications, the device can provide audio-quality voice playback to vehicles’ entertainment, traffic-information and warning systems. (The ISD15D00 adheres to the Automotive Electronics Council’s strict AEC-Q100 strict stress-test qualification for electronics.)

It provides equally important voice information to medical and industrial-use designs, such as glucose meters, automated external defibrillators, blood pressure meters, security systems, vending machines and point-of-sale displays, along with consumer products – refrigerators, microwave ovens and other large appliances.

The easily programmable ISD15D00 also allows this array of products to carry branding messages, enabling manufacturers to distinguish their products with high-quality digital playback of audio-grade sound alerts and corporate audio-logo clips.

“Acoustic branding” has been embraced by a wide range of markets to build brand identity and distinctiveness, tapping into users’ powerful sense of sound and memory.
