LSI expands R&D operations in India

BANGALORE, INDIA: LSI Corp., a leading provider of innovative silicon, systems and software solutions for storage and networking, announced expansion plans for the company’s India-based research and development (R&D) operations. LSI currently has a strong presence across India with major development centers in Bangalore and Pune.

The expansion initiative includes the grand opening today of a new, three hundred thousand (three lakh) square foot development center in Bangalore. As part of the initiative, the company also expects to double the size of its India-based engineering organization in the next three years.

LSI currently employs more than 1,000 engineers in India, which comprise the company’s largest regional presence outside of the United States. The expansion of the company’s resources in India will enable the development of new technologies and solutions for global customers and higher levels of engagement with local customers and partners.

The new center was inaugurated by Jeff Richardson, executive vice president and general manager, Semiconductor Solutions Group, LSI Corporation. Members of the LSI board of directors were also in attendance.

“India is a key component of our long-term strategic vision, with both excellent technical education infrastructure and exceptional talent,” said Richardson. “The world-class R&D capabilities we are deploying in India will allow us to continuously innovate and deliver breakthrough storage and networking technologies that enable our customers to outpace the competition.”

“The Bangalore Development Center will play an important role in adding to our business as well as creating innovative products for the global market,” said Pravin Desale, managing director, LSI India Research & Development Pvt Ltd. and vice president of engineering, Storage Components Division, LSI.

Augmenting existing R&D operations in Bangalore and Pune, the Bangalore Development Center will support new and ongoing research and development across the company's entire portfolio of solutions for storage, networking and custom silicon.

LSI also has recently expanded the company’s Pune R&D center to more than twice its previous capacity. The expanded center will enable the company to significantly increase its workforce in Pune over the next 24 months. The additional engineering capacity will broaden the scope of development in the areas of network security, enterprise networking and data storage.

For decades, LSI has been pioneering the technologies that define the way we work and live. The company has a rich heritage of innovation, including development of the world’s first 40nm low-density parity check (LDPC) hard disk drive read channel and SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) chip, and delivering the industry’s first end-to-end silicon portfolio for wireless infrastructure.
