Cypress to demo intelligent lighting solutions portfolio

Light+Building 2010, SAN JOSE, USA: Cypress Semiconductor Corp. will be demonstrating its intelligent lighting solutions portfolio at the Light+Building exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany from April 11 to 16.

The demonstrations in Hall 4, Stand E15 will include Cypress’s newly announced Powerline Communication solution and AC-DC digital power controllers for LED lighting, as well as the PowerPSoC family of integrated embedded power controllers.

The new AC-DC controllers offer a cost-effective solution for both non-dimmable and dimmable LED lighting, delivering high efficiency while meeting EnergyStar requirements. They provide automatic dimmer detection, so they work with the majority of the existing installed base of wall dimmers, providing dimming down to 2 percent with no flicker.

The AC-DC controllers complement the PowerPSoC family of embedded power controllers, the industry’s first single-chip solution for both controlling and driving high-power LEDs. Together, the AC-DC family and Cypress’s PowerPSoC family cover a wide range of LED applications, from LED retrofit bulbs to high-end LED luminaires that require a variety of functions (communications, diagnostics, color-changing, etc).

Cypress’s new PLC solution offers the world’s first truly programmable products for data communication over existing power lines. Leveraging the programmable analog and digital resources of Cypress’s PSoC programmable system-on-a-chip architecture, the PLC solution integrates multiple functions beyond communication, such as power measurement, system management and LCD drive.

The PowerPSoC family integrates four constant-current regulators and four 32V MOSFETs with Cypress’s PSoC programmable system-on-chip, which includes programmable analog and digital blocks, a microcontroller, and memory. This unprecedented level of integration provides customers with a single-chip solution for high-quality LED-based lighting products, and extends into other embedded applications such as white goods and industrial control.

The result is end systems with fewer components, faster design cycles, lower power consumption and higher reliability. The PowerPSoC family has earned a 2009 Golden Mousetrap Award from Design News magazine and a 2009 Elektra Award from Electronics Weekly magazine.

“We have expanded our portfolio of intelligent lighting solutions to keep pace with this fast-moving market,” said Brian Moody, marketing director for Cypress’s PowerPSoC Business Unit. “The Light+Buiding Exhibition presents an ideal opportunity to demonstrate how our AC-DC, PLC and PowerPSoC products can help our customers deliver differentiated offerings in this arena.”
