Applied Materials receives Intel's preferred quality supplier award

SANTA CLARA, USA: Applied Materials Inc. has been recognized to receive Intel Corp.'s Preferred Quality Supplier (PQS) award for their performance in 2010. Along with 15 other companies, Applied Materials is recognized for their significant contributions providing Intel with semiconductor manufacturing equipment and support services, deemed essential to Intel's success.

"We're honored to receive this award from Intel in recognition of our strong collaboration in driving semiconductor technology and manufacturing excellence," said Dr. Randhir Thakur, executive vice president and general manager of the Silicon Systems Group at Applied Materials. "Thanks to Intel's guidance and close working relationships in every department at each facility, we delivered better product quality. We improved our discipline and responsiveness to Intel's advanced technology needs and stringent manufacturing requirements, and will strive to build on the high standard that we have achieved this year."

"Congratulations to Applied Materials on achieving the PQS award for 2010. Applied Materials delivered exceptional results supporting Intel's technology roadmap, improving affordability and driving quality improvements throughout the supply chain," said Sandra Viarengo, Fab Capital Equipment Development director, Intel Corporation. "Intel thanks Applied Materials for their commitment and strong customer focus and looks forward to even greater success in innovation, operational excellence and sustainability in 2011."

The PQS award is part of Intel's Supplier Continuous Quality Improvement (SCQI) program that encourages suppliers to strive for excellence and continuous improvement. To qualify for PQS status, suppliers must score 80 percent on a report card that assesses performance and ability to meet cost, quality, availability, technology and environmental, social and governance goals. Suppliers must also achieve 80 percent or greater on a challenging improvement plan and demonstrate solid quality and business systems.

A celebration to honor PQS award winners will be held in conjunction with Intel's Supplier Day in Scottsdale, Arizona.
