INDIA: Xilinx Inc. showcased its Targeted Design Platforms targeting cellular infrastructures by using FPGAs that enable global wireless communications with lower cost and power solutions for radio, baseband, and connectivity at Mobile World Congress 2011 in Barcelona, Spain, from Feb. 14-17, 2011.
The market-specific platforms integrate the latest hardware, software, and IP innovations to help network infrastructure vendors and operators reduce capital expenditures, operating expenses, and development costs for software-defined radio and 3/4G multi-mode base stations.
Xilinx demonstrated, in collaboration with its world-class ecosystem, wireless development environments capable of addressing evolving standards and application requirements such as LTE (Long Term Evolution) baseband and multi-mode radio subsystems.
Reduce wireless infrastructure capex and opex
Demonstrations will showcase the Xilinx Multi-mode Radio Targeted Design Platform with a Virtex-6 FPGA ML605 development board and connected via FPGA Mezzanine Card (FMC) connector to Analog Devices Inc.’s Mixed Signal Digital Pre-Distortion (MSDPD) System Board.
In addition to the two boards, Xilinx has worked with leading Envelope Tracking developer, Nujira, to add support for Nujira’s Coolteq.h modulator. The demonstration design features Xilinx Crest Factor Reduction (CFR) and Digital Pre-Distortion (DPD) with a power amplifier enabled by Nujira that provides over 50 percent power amplifier efficiency. The combination of high efficiency provided by Xilinx CFR and DPD IP, and Nujira’s modulator allows operators to save millions of dollars in operating expenditure.
Furthermore, the integration of all digital signal processing into a single Xilinx FPGA provides low power, low cost and high reliability demanded by chassis mount and remote radio applications. It offers broad industry support for LTE, WiMAX, WCDMA, CDMA2000, TD-SCDMA, and GSM standards. Attendees will learn first-hand how they can jumpstart system development and customize designs based on application-specific requirements, leveraging the broad range of Xilinx radio reference designs and pre-verified IP.
Accelerate LTE base station design and development
Xilinx will also be demonstrating the LTE Baseband Targeted Design Platform, showing how Xilinx FPGAs, tools and IP can be used to build an advanced Layer1 LTE implementation, reducing power dissipation, system cost and development risk compared to programmable DSP based solutions.
Agilent Technologies’ LTE VSA software will be featured as part of the demonstration, showing the compatibility with 3GPP LTE standards.
