Analogix releases SlimPort products for mobile HD devices

Mobile World Congress 2011, BARCELONA, SPAIN & SANTA CLARA, USA: Analogix Semiconductor Inc., a leader in high-performance digital media interface solutions, today released its SlimPort transmitter ANX7805 and CoolHD(TM) HDMI converter ANX7730 devices, enabling mobile phones, tablet PCs and other portable HD devices to connect to any HDTV. Analogix extends its award-winning zero-power CoolHD(TM) HDMI technology to offer an HDMI 1.4a-compliant solution with 3D display capabilities for mobile devices.

Overcoming the space limitations of traditional connectivity port architecture on mobile devices, the new SlimPort mobile-to-HDTV solution allows manufacturers to deliver a new generation of ultra-thin form factor mobile HD devices by enabling HD multimedia connectivity via existing mobile USB connector.

Now, SlimPort transmitter-enabled mobile phones, tablet PCs, digital still cameras, camcorders etc., can connect to any HDTV through a mobile USB to HDMI cable accessory without changing the form factor of either appliance. Analogix will be demonstrating the SlimPort and CoolHD family of products at the Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona, Spain, Booth 2B97, Hall 2 from Feb. 14-17, 2011.

“Analogix innovated SlimPort technology so that consumers are the biggest beneficiary of its products,” says Dr. Kewei Yang, chairman and CEO of Analogix Semiconductor. “The advent of CoolHD and now SlimPort technologies serves customers’ needs to connect their smartphones to HDTVs without compromising the form factor or the battery life of their handheld devices. We are excited to serve the mobile HD market with new products while smartphones and tablet PCs along with cloud services offer multiple avenues for enjoying increased productivity and a better user experience on the go.”

The ANX7805 SlimPort transmitter is a highly flexible device that interfaces with any Application Processor inside mobile phones, tablet PCs and other portable HD devices. The flexible choice of video inputs, such as RGB or MIPI-DSI; audio inputs including SPDIF or 8-channel I2S; and system control input interfaces such as SPI or I2C; provides system integrators with a great degree of flexibility around which to design their final mobile product.

With an integrated analog switch, the ANX7805 seamlessly switches between data synchronization and delivery of uncompressed audio and video through the same mobile device USB connector when connected with appropriate mobile cable accessories. The ANX7805 device meets the USB specification for USB data pass-through and provides the most cost-effective solution to mobile HD device manufacturers to serve the growing need for HD media consumption by consumers on large displays.

Using CoolHD technology, the ANX7730 converts SlimPort to HDMI output through a simple mobile USB-to-HDMI cable accessory which draws zero power from the handheld device. Additionally, CoolHD technology implementation in the ANX7730 facilitates the charging of the mobile device during HDTV playback through the USB connector, keeping the device ready to go any time even after extended HD playback.

ANX7805 and ANX7730 devices provide the most elegant and cost-effective solution to the mobile HD devices while maintaining their current form factors. SlimPort and CoolHD technologies work over the standard mobile USB 2.0, USB 3.0 and HDMI connectors without adding any extra cost to the entire eco-system. The ubiquity and familiarity of standard connectors across the appliances makes it easier for the average consumer to identify, connect and enjoy their mobile HD content on a large display.
