Voltaire switches accelerate over half of all InfiniBand deployments

PORTLAND, USA: Voltaire Ltd, a leading provider of scale-out data center fabrics, today announced that its switches continue to power more than 50 percent of the InfiniBand deployments — more than double the share of any other InfiniBand systems vendor — on the 34th edition of the TOP500 list of the world’s most powerful supercomputers released this week.

With 181 sites, InfiniBand interconnect technology continues to increase share on the TOP500 list at the expense of Gigabit Ethernet.

Voltaire 20 and 40 Gb/s InfiniBand switches provide the high performance interconnect for both the world’s top research institutions on the list, as well as for commercial and industrial customers who rely on HPC technologies to run their businesses.

Voltaire switches accelerate 20 of the Top 100 systems -- including 2 of the Top 5 -- and also comprise the high-performance fabrics for 90 percent of the commercial sites that use InfiniBand. Voltaire switches are used in 40 new entries on the list since June 2009.

“Voltaire is known for delivering high performance, scale-out fabrics to the world’s largest supercomputers and to the data centers of the world’s largest corporations,” said Asaf Somekh, vice president of marketing, Voltaire. “This new list confirms that we are widening our lead in the InfiniBand switching market with more deployments than any other InfiniBand switch vendor.”

The closely watched TOP500 list, issued twice a year on www.TOP500.org, ranks the most powerful supercomputers worldwide and serves as a valuable tool for tracking trends in supercomputer performance and architectures. The latest list reflects changes from June 2009 to November 2009.
