Broadcom StrataXGS switch solutions drive new era in mobile aggregation networks

BEIJING, CHINA: At P&T/Expo Comm China 2011, Asia's largest annual telecommunications conference, Broadcom Corp. unveiled its latest high performance StrataXGS switch solutions optimized to meet the bandwidth, scalability and efficiency demands of next-generation Carrier Ethernet aggregation platforms.

Global IP traffic is expected to quadruple over the next several years, driving the need for a faster and more efficient aggregation network. Broadcom is meeting that challenge with two new feature-rich series of Carrier Ethernet aggregation switch solutions. With the industry's highest level of integration, the new solutions deliver up to 40 percent lower power consumption coupled with a vast increase in forwarding scale and flexibility.

The StrataXGS BCM56640 series, for modular platforms, and the StrataXGS BCM56540 series, for fixed carrier Ethernet platforms, deliver the industry's highest port speeds and scale in their class. The flexible StrataXGS architecture underlying both families is ideally suited for transport-oriented (PTN) and IP-oriented (IP-RAN) aggregation network deployments, providing operators with greater capacity and service density while controlling operational costs.

Both StrataXGS series feature the latest Carrier Ethernet innovations including MPLS-TP, MPLS OAM, integrated time synchronization, upgraded protection switching, and extensive IPv4 and IPv6 routing resources.
