Marvell's ARMADA application processors for next-gen mobile computing and intelligent connected devices

BANGALORE, INDIA: Marvell Technology Group Ltd hosted its first Marvell India Technology Day (MITD) at Hotel Leela Palace, Bangalore, on November 10, 2009.

The event brought together the design ecosystem and provided attendees the opportunity to engage with industry experts and attend in-depth technical sessions across a wide range of cutting edge Marvell technologies. The overriding theme of the event was technology for next generation mobile devices and intelligent displays.

The first MITD was a huge success with participation from over 300 delegates. The inaugural address by Dr. Gulshan Rai, Director and Senior IAS officer, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Government of India) was followed by the keynote address by Dr. Ashok Jhunjhunwala, from the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Chennai.

Sridhar Kaip, Managing Director, Marvell India said: “The response we received for this first Marvell India Technology Day has been tremendous. Our goal was to bring the Marvell design ecosystem together under one umbrella to offer a platform for collaboration and to foster innovation and creativity. I am delighted that it has been such a success.”

Showcasing ARMADA
The highlight of the event was the showcasing of ARMADA, Marvell’s game-changing family of processors designed specifically for next generation smartphones, smartbooks, consumer and embedded devices, and displays.

The ARMADA family of application processors sets a new standard by offering CPU cores with PC-class performance, support for Adobe Flash technology and Blu-ray functionality.

Additional features include complete broadband connectivity for the next wave of innovative electronics, spanning price points from low-cost consumer gadgets all the way to premium performance devices.

“The Indian market is unique, not only because of rapid growth but also because of innovation, be it lowcost handsets, pricing models or value added services. There is enormous potential in areas such as broadband, IPTV and 3G-enabled services,” said Anand Ramamoorthy, Senior Director and Head of Sales and Marketing, Marvell India.

Keynoter, Dr. Ashok Jhunjhunwala, Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Chennai, said: “Globalization is leading to greater convergence among economies, creating more opportunities for growth. Leading technology companies like Marvell will play a critical role in enabling countries like India to capitalize on this phenomenon. As India emerges as the hotbed of innovation, there is a huge potential in such collaborations and knowledge-sharing platforms, to replicate models and solutions from other emerging and advanced markets."
