Cypress intros new PSoC 1 device with enhanced analog performance

SAN JOSE, USA: Cypress Semiconductor Corp. introduced a new PSoC 1 programmable system-on-chip with enhanced analog performance. The superior programmable analog of the new CY8C28xxx device enables more advanced mixed-signal and sensing applications, as well as faster and more robust capacitive touch-sensing interfaces.

The devices also deliver the best digital performance among the PSoC 1 family, including support for directly driving an LCD and dual hardware I2C interfaces. The new PSoC 1 line targets a wide range of embedded applications that take advantage of the enhanced analog and digital peripherals, including industrial control, communication backplane management, white goods and more.

The CY8C28xxx PSoC 1 architecture integrates up to 16 programmable analog and 12 digital blocks with an 8-bit microcontroller, a unique combination that offers designers unmatched flexibility. The device supports up to four simultaneous Delta-Sigma Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs) with 6- to 14-bit resolution options, allowing it to sample up to four analog inputs simultaneously at 62 ksps with an aggregate data sample rate of 248 ksps.

The device’s easy-to-configure dedicated successive-approximation ADC allows designers to sample up to 192 ksps at 8- or 10-bit resolution. With two parallel CapSense touch-sensing channels, the new PSoC devices can process twice as much input data at any general purpose I/O pins at the same scanning interval.

Also, with the two hardware I2C interfaces in a single CY8C28xxx device, engineers can integrates multiple I2C functions simultaneously, such as I2C bus switching, buffering and hot-swapping.

“The PSoC programmable system-on-chip has experienced tremendous growth with its trademark programmable analog, design flexibility and integration capabilities,” said Gahan Richardson, vice president of Cypress’s PSoC products. “The CY8C28xxx line expands the target applications for the PSoC 1 family by extending the analog performance to a new level.”

Additional system resources for the CY8C28xxx PSoC 1 device include an SPI interface with between 8- to 16-bit variable-length, a hardware real-time clock and an integrated PWM deadband. The devices offer multi/single shot support and operation in the extended temperature range of -40C to 85C. The CY8C28xxx devices are software and pin compatible with the popular CY8C27xxx PSoC 1 devices.

The CY8C28xxx PSoC 1 devices are now in production. The line is available in multiple configurations, and comes in a 48-pin QFN package, a 44-pin TQFP package, and 20- and 28-pin SSOP packages.
