Aquantia to deliver world's first quad 10GBASE-T solution

MILPITAS, USA: Aquantia, the leading developer of energy efficient 10GBASE-T solutions, announced the validation of the world's first 40nm Quad 10GBASE-T PHY. Aquantia’s bold move into 40nm will deliver the critical power, density and cost performance levels long awaited by server, switch and storage equipment manufacturers for volume deployment in the data center ecosystem.

Aquantia’s achievement in the 40nm process node, together with the announcement of the world's first full product family ranging from single to quad-port devices, confirm the company’s leadership position among 10GBASE-T silicon providers.

Aquantia successfully demonstrated its unique and competitive architecture in 90nm with the AQ1002 now shipping to major OEM customers. Aquantia has now proven once again that its differentiated and proven architecture can scale effectively to the next advanced process node, bringing together the benefits of high energy efficiency and high density needed for emerging LAN on Motherboard (LOM) and high-density switching implementations.

Early customer samples will be available in the second half of 2009. Key characteristics include:
• IEEE 802.3an compliance
• 2.0W per port at 10m Cat6A/Cat7
• 3.5W per port at 100m Cat6A/Cat7
• Multi-rate 10G/1G/100M
• High-performance XAUI/RXAUI/XFI interface

“Meeting the conflicting demands in the data center -- to reduce power and increase port density, while delivering data transfer speeds of 10 Gbits/s -- designers at Aquantia have crafted a breakthrough product that more than halves the power per port and integrates four ports in a single chip,” stated Dave Bursky, the Semiconductor Technology Editor for Chip Design Magazine and long-time industry observer. “The Aquantia quad-port 10GBASE-T PHY will open new levels of system integration at greatly reduced power levels,” he continued.

Energy efficiency is becoming increasingly vital to data center deployments. Aquantia’s versatile PHY minimizes power consumption to a couple Watts per port for cable connectivity within the rack in data center deployments, making it the ideal alternative to cumbersome, bulky and expensive SFP+ solutions.

"IT Data Center and distributed network managers need universal, scalable and affordable high-speed copper connectivity, to match the growing dominance of 10GE servers and switches in their networks,” stated Aquantia president and CEO Faraj Aalaei.

“As 10GBASE-T is becoming the endorsed, mainstream interconnect standard of top-tier switching and server vendors, we believe the combination of features, low power consumption, product density and low cost will drive the massive deployment of 10GBASE-T. We are pleased to again be the vanguard semiconductor vendor delivering this leading edge solution.”

Aquantia will demonstrate its 10GBASE-T product line at Interop Las Vegas 2009, May 17-21 in the Mandalay Bay Conference Center, booth 2103. Aquantia will also host live demonstrations in the Ixia booth (#1813) and in the Ethernet Alliance booth (#527).
