RV-VLSI Design Center and Mentor Graphics announce intercollegiate design contest in VLSI/embedded system

BANGALORE, INDIA: Starting from this year RV-VLSI (a unit of the RV Group of educational institutions) is offering industry approved BE projects to students of 8th semester of engineering colleges affiliated to VTU.

According to RV-VLSI, 133 students from nine different colleges have registered for the BE projects. The students will get the benefit of understanding of how industry solves problems by doing projects under the guidance of industry professionals from RV-VLSI. A function was organized at the RV-VLSI auditorium to announce a design contest for participating engineers. The event was inaugurated by Honorable Vice Chancellor of VTU, Belgaum, Dr. H.P. Khincha.

Industry representatives, Anil Gupta, executive board member, Indian Semiconductor Association (ISA) and Raghu Panicker, sales director, Mentor Graphics India, Venkatesh Prasad CEO, RV-VLSI and Dr. M.K. Panduranga Setty -President Rashtreeya Sikshana Samithi Trust were also present at the launch.

The chairman of the Board of Studies VTU, and Principals and Heads of department and students engineering colleges participated in the program. Many professionals from the industry participated in the event.

The intent of the design contest is to instill a competitive spirit amongst students undertaking projects at RV-VLSI, and to identify and select the best project. Four cash prizes sponsored by Rashtreeya Shiksana Samithi Trust and Mentor Grahics, and two Rolling Trophies were also announced.

The event concluded on a positive note and all speakers appreciated the idea of the design contest and were unanimous in their opinion that this would help bridge the industry academia gap and improve the employability of students.
