Datang Mobile selects NetLogic for next-gen LTE and TD-SCDMA solutions

Mobile World Congress 2010, BARCELONA, SPAIN & MOUNTAIN VIEW, USA: NetLogic Microsystems Inc. announced that Datang Mobile Communications Equipment Co. Ltd has selected its multi-core, multi-threaded XLR processors and knowledge-based processors to power Datang Mobile’s advanced TD-SCDMA and LTE mobile infrastructure solutions.

Datang Mobile is a leading provider of mobile infrastructure network solutions such as basestations, NodeB, radio network controllers (RNCs) and mobile gateways that are deployed by leading carriers such as China Mobile.

Datang Mobile’s next-generation LTE and TD-SCDMA solutions are ATCA (Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture)-compliant, and utilize multiple XLR732 processors from NetLogic Microsystems per blade to deliver the performance and scalability required for advanced mobile core and edge systems. These advanced systems will be deployed as part of the fourth phase of China Mobile’s TD-SCDMA rollout in 2010, as well as next-generation LTE upgrades.

“We are very pleased to have selected NetLogic Microsystems as a very important and strategic technology partner and vendor for our mobile infrastructure solutions,” said Mr. Zhao Xin, general manager for LTE products at Datang Mobile. “We have been very impressed with the best-in-class performance of NetLogic Microsystems’ XLR732 multi-core, multi-threaded processors and knowledge-based processors, as well as the superior local support that we have received from NetLogic Microsystems.”

“We have enjoyed a long and positive relationship with Datang Mobile for both our knowledge-based processor and our multi-core processor families, and we look forward to continued and expanded collaboration between our companies,” said Dr. Sunny Siu, president and general manager of Asia-Pacific at NetLogic Microsystems. “We continue to lead the industry on performance, functionality, power and scalability across our product lines to deliver best-in-class products that are powering advanced 3G and LTE mobile infrastructure deployments worldwide.”

NetLogic Microsystems’ market-leading XLR732 processor integrates eight high-performance MIPS64 cores, each with four-way simultaneous multi-threading, for a total of 32 fine-grain processor threads to mitigate latency, improve computational efficiency and throughput for network data plane and control plane processing in base stations, eNodeB, RNCs, gateways, switches, routers, ATCA and AMC service cards, security appliances and storage appliances.

The processor also offers a best-in-class packet management, packet distribution and network accelerator engine, an intelligent Fast Messaging Network to maximize on-chip communications bandwidth, a superior memory sub-system, high-speed interconnects, and a broad set of acceleration engines.

This enables NetLogic Microsystems’ multi-core processors to support billions of in-flight messages and packet descriptors between all on-chip elements. The XLR processor family is supported by a comprehensive software development kit (SDK) that contains reference and production-ready software components, which enables customers to accelerate time-to-market.

In addition, NetLogic Microsystems’ innovative knowledge-based processors are powering Datang Mobile’s packet core and radio network controller solutions. NetLogic Microsystems’ knowledge-based processors are used to accelerate important functions such as quality of service (QoS), billing and packet filtering that in turn enhance the performance of quad-play services for mobile wireless carriers such as China Mobile.

By utilizing knowledge-based processors from NetLogic Microsystems, service providers can more efficiently deploy bandwidth-intensive applications and services such as the delivery of high-quality video to mobile handsets, interactive gaming, voice-over-IP (VoIP) and Internet access. NetLogic Microsystems offers the industry’s highest performance knowledge-based processors with the fastest decision rate, largest database capacity and the lowest power consumption, all of which are important factors for advanced 3G and LTE systems.
