TAIWAN: According to the Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC), Taiwan, entering the post-crisis era, the full-year worldwide WLAN module shipment volume reached 269.0 million units in 2009, up 14 percent compared to the full-year shipment volume in 2008. In 2009, growth momentum of WLAN modules was still fundamentally driven by demand for notebook and netbook PCs.
Connected consumer electronics devices are expected to become next growth driver for WLAN modules, with the CAGR reaching around 21 percent during the period 2009-2014.Source: MIC, August 2010.
In 2009, affected by the slump in prices of 11n chipsets, the worldwide WLAN industry's shipment value declined to NT$83.6 billion. With WLAN modules having less room for price reductions in 2010, the worldwide WLAN module industry is expected to rely on growing demand for connected home entertainment and HD (High Definition) video transmission to further boost growth in the future.
This report analyzes the following topics:
- Introduction to worldwide and Taiwanese WLAN industry development.
- Profiling five major WLAN module suppliers, including Gemtek, Lite-On, CyberTAN, USI, and AzureWave, in respect to company background, financial status, technology status, product status, and client base and analyzes their development strategies.
