Widex adopts ChipVision PowerOpt solution

OLDENBURG, GERMANY & SAN JOSE, USA: ChipVision Design Systems, the company whose award-winning, patented PowerOpt solution reduces power consumption by up to 75 percent through system-level optimization, announced that PowerOpt has been adopted by Widex, a provider of advanced digital hearing aids, in which power efficiency is a key design requirement.

After completing a competitive evaluation of high-level synthesis solutions, Widex selected PowerOpt based on three criteria: power consumption and silicon area; improvement in design productivity; and technical support. In the competitive evaluation, PowerOpt produced designs that were more power-efficient than the nearest competitors. PowerOpt is currently in production use at Widex.

“At Widex, we go to great lengths to ensure that our devices have the longest possible battery life, so optimizing power consumption – which, to date, we have done by hand – is a key concern,” said Morten Suurballe, Architecture and System Specialist.

“We were impressed that PowerOpt even further reduced the power consumption of our designs, and substantially improved productivity by synthesizing the designs directly from our C++ algorithms. ChipVision’s customer support also has been stellar.”
