NEC selects Freescale communications processor for wireless infrastructure equipment

AUSTIN, USA: NEC Corp. has selected advanced embedded technology from Freescale Semiconductor for the newest generation of PASOLINK microwave communications equipment.

NEC's PASOLINK products facilitate communication between a network’s core and intermediate network points such as wireless base stations. These “backhaul” links require equipment that delivers high levels of performance, flexibility and energy efficiency, as demand for content grows and the number of worldwide wireless devices and subscribers expands dramatically.

"NEC has been recognized as the market share leader for three straight years in the global compact microwave communications system market," said Katsuhiro Sasaki, GM, Mobile Wireless Network Division of NEC.

"To solidify this position, we must continue to develop competitive products. We are glad to be working with Freescale, which has a strong track record in the communications market. Their products offer an ideal balance of performance and power with a rich set of interfaces.”

"Freescale is pleased to provide the embedded intelligence for NEC's newest line of industry-leading compact microwave communications systems," said Tsuneji Inami, Director for Freescale Semiconductor Japan. "The performance, integration and low power operation of our processors are ideal for helping this world-class OEM expand market share.”
