Actions Semiconductor expands product offering with introduction of new series 27 products

ZHUHAI, CHINA: Actions Semiconductor Co. Ltd, one of China's leading fabless semiconductor companies that provides comprehensive mixed-signal system-on-a-chip (SoC) and multimedia digital signal processing (DSP) solutions for portable consumer electronics, has introduced its new Series 27 product family.

Following a successful sampling program and positive customer response, the new Series 27 product family is moving into volume production with selective customers in the fourth quarter of 2010.

Actions' Series 27 product family has brought the portable media player (PMP) application into a new era. By utilizing this new product family, PMP products can offer an advanced and cost effective mobile entertainment platform to consumers that provide a stronger video playback function, better audio and video quality, and longer battery life in addition to a better price point when compared to mobile phones.

Utilizing a triple core architecture, the Series 27 product family is equipped with a 32-bit central processing unit (CPU), a full spec 720P (1280*720 pixel) video decoder and a simulated 3D graphic processing unit (GPU). Not only does it support video decoding for many types of video formats, it also supports the fantastic Flash UI/Flash Game/Flash Player plus 720P DV recording functions.

"By using our Series 27 products, PMPs can perform far beyond traditional expectations and end users will realize that a media player is not just a player," stated Niccolo Chen, CEO of Actions Semiconductor.

"With the power management unit (PMU) and HDMI Transmitter (HDMI Tx) built-in, Series 27 has a proven cost advantage for HD video output through TVs. In addition, the Series 27 product family also supports DDR2 memory and the latest TLC NAND Flash under 40-bit ECC architecture. Our customer response to the Series 27 products, both in and outside of China, has been very positive."
