Linde to boost ultra-high purity nitrogen supply to Pacific NW semicon manufacturer

NEW JERSEY, USA: Linde North America’s Electronics and Specialty Gases business is expanding its capacity to supply ultra-high purity (UHP) gaseous nitrogen to a major semiconductor manufacturer at its Pacific Northwest campus.

Linde North America is a member of The Linde Group, a leading global gases and engineering company. Linde’s Electronics and Specialty Gases is a major supplier of products and services to the semiconductor and electronics manufacturing industries.

This semiconductor manufacturer needs additional UHP nitrogen to support an expansion at its research and production facilities located in the Pacific Northwest. The use of UHP nitrogen in the manufacturing process is essential to ensure products meet their extremely tight design specifications.

Mark Quinn, vice president of key global accounts for Linde’s Electronics and Specialty Gases business, said: “Linde has a very long relationship with this global leader in semiconductor manufacturing and is delighted to contribute to their technology advancements. Our supply of UHP nitrogen to their premier site strengthens our relationship and builds on our commitment to them as a key customer. We also believe the upgrades to Linde’s facility, located in nearby Hillsboro, Oregon, will provide the reliability necessary to ensure this manufacturer meets its production targets.”

Since 1996 Linde has been supplying this manufacturer with UHP gaseous nitrogen via pipeline from an on-site air separation plant in Hillsboro. To meet the increased demand, Linde will install a new UHP nitrogen generator that will produce UHP gaseous nitrogen and UHP liquid oxygen. Linde will also upgrade its existing infrastructure to boost its production capacity.

The Linde Group is a world leading gases and engineering company with almost 48,000 employees working in more than 100 countries worldwide. In the 2009 financial year it achieved sales of EUR 11.2 billion (USD 15.3 billion). The strategy of The Linde Group is geared toward sustainable earnings-based growth and focuses on the expansion of its international business with forward-looking products and services.
