Microsemi and Cisco Systems enter into agreement relating to Power over Ethernet patents

IRVINE, USA: Microsemi Corp., a leading manufacturer of high performance analog mixed-signal integrated circuits, high reliability semiconductors and RF subsystems, has entered into a patent transfer and licensing agreement with Cisco Systems Inc., covering Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) patents, including patents that are essential to the IEEE 802.11af and 802.11at PoE standards.

Microsemi believes that in addition to VoIP and Wireless LAN access points, PoE technology is expanding with a range of emerging applications, such as network cameras, access control devices, laptop computers, PDAs, fire sensors and alarms, audio and video remote monitoring and residential gateways.

"We believe that the agreement reached will facilitate proliferation of PoE technology by eliminating uncertainties that exist with respect to IP positioning," said James J. Peterson, president and CEO of Microsemi. The terms of the Agreement remain confidential.
