Sigma Designs HomePNA-based chips bring best value in high-quality broadband services to Mototech customers

MILPITAS, USA: Sigma Designs, a leading provider of system-on-chip (SoC) solutions used to deliver entertainment and control throughout the home, announced that its HomePNA-based chips have been selected to deliver broadband networking solutions to MDU residents using Mototech equipment.

Sigma chips, using Fast EoC technology, let Mototech deliver broadband services to MDU residents -- spanning apartment buildings, condominiums, and townhomes -- more practically than any other Ethernet over Coax (EoC) solution available.

Fast EoC technology by Sigma brings cost savings to service providers by using existing infrastructure – coaxial cable already inside MDUs – to deliver IP data, voice, and video.

Otherwise known as Triple Play, these services have been noted globally for boosting ARPU and customer retention among Telcos, Cable, SatCos, and other service providers. Mototech devices with Sigma’s Fast EoC will help service providers avoid the costs and hassles associated with new Ethernet wiring and prohibitively expensive DOCSIS-based networks.

Sigma is the worldwide leader in IPTV over coax and phone lines with more than 15 million chips shipped to date. More than 70 service providers use HomePNA for IPTV distribution and broadband access. Twenty-five thousand new Sigma-enabled HomePNA devices are installed in MDUs and single-family homes every business day.

“Sigma is focused on enabling its customers around the world to deliver high-quality, low cost broadband services to their subscriber base,” said Gabi Hilevitz, vice president and general manager, Home Connectivity Group of Sigma Designs. “For networking players like Mototech, a fast, affordable connection to broadband is essential to connecting their customer base and only Sigma can give them the technology necessary to deliver.”

Mototech’s Coax MDU Master and Endpoint Bridges deliver broadband services over existing coaxial cable to all data enabled devices including PCs and laptops, Ethernet equipped set top boxes, and VoIP phone systems throughout the home.

Fast EoC offers a “pay as you grow” solution which does not require significant front-end investment. Service providers can increase the number of masters and endpoints as they expand their network. Fast EoC also provides remote management capability and the allocation of different bandwidths to different users within the MDU community.

“Fast EoC technology furthers our mission of providing high-quality broadband access and IP-connectivity to residents of MDUs. Mototech and Sigma offer a win-win solution to service providers and consumers who want affordable ways of participating in the digital home market,” said Michael Yu, vice president at Mototech.

The Mototech solution using the Sigma’s MDU chipset is being managed end-to-end by the TR-069 developed by Institute for Information Industry (III).

“This solution enables cable operators to quickly bring Triple Play and remote provisioning of rates and services to consumers in the most cost-effective way,” said Dr. Chia-Hsiang Chang, vice president and general director of Emerging Smart Technology Institute of III. “We are pleased to work with Sigma and Mototech to bring these valued services to MSOs around the world.”
