Xilinx joins EEMBC board of directors

EL DORADO HILLS, USA: The Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium (EEMBC) has announced that Xilinx Inc., a leading provider of programmable platforms, is the consortium's newest member. As a member of the Board of Directors, Xilinx will have full access to utilize all the benchmark tools provided by EEMBC, and will help drive the consortium's future direction.

EEMBC was formed in 1997 to develop meaningful performance benchmarks for the hardware and software used in embedded systems. EEMBC benchmark software helps predict the performance of embedded processors and systems in a range of applications (i.e., automotive /industrial, digital imaging and entertainment, hypervisors, networking, office automation, telecommunications, and connected devices) and disciplines (processor core functionality, floating-point, Java, multicore, and energy consumption).

Xilinx, headquartered in San Jose, Dublin and Singapore, employs about 3,000 people worldwide, with over 20,000 customers and 2,500 patents. Its Field-programmable Gate Array (FPGA) and processor products serves as the foundation for programmable targeted design platforms that enable software and hardware designers alike to leverage open standards, common design methodologies, development tools, and run-time platforms.

"We welcome Xilinx to the consortium and are looking forward to the contributions that the world's leading FPGA vendor can offer to our group," said EEMBC president Markus Levy. "Xilinx has been a semiconductor industry leader at the forefront of technology for over 25 years, and we look forward to the contributions they'll make in the development of next generation system benchmarks."

"As a Board Member, Xilinx will utilize EEMBC benchmark standards to help us drive advances in a variety of processing capabilities to enhance performance and customization across a wide range of end markets including: aerospace and defense, wired and wireless communications, automotive, audio/video broadcast, industrial control, test and measurement, and consumer," said Xilinx VP, Processing Solutions, Vidya Rajagopalan. "Xilinx is committed to providing embedded development tools as the platform of choice for today's leading companies for the design of tens of thousands of products that improve the quality of our everyday lives."
