TI announces founding membership in Embedded Vision Alliance

DALLAS, USA: Texas Instruments Inc. (TI) announced its membership in the Embedded Vision Alliance (EVA), reinforcing a long-standing commitment to vision technology and enabling its customers to develop the industry's most innovative hardware, development tools and software to make vision application development easier.

Founded in 2011 and led by BDTI, EVA represents an industry collaboration to enable rapid growth of computer vision in embedded systems. It is a membership-based entity dedicated to inspiring and empowering embedded system designers to use embedded vision technology and providing system design engineers with the tools they will need in order to effectively incorporate embedded vision technology in their designs.

Starting with TI's first programmable digital signal processors (DSPs) in the 1980s, TI has continued to support the signal processing revolution, adding imaging, video and vision processing capabilities to thousands of applications – literally allowing customers to take computing from large rooms to pockets. With expert integration experience, TI provides market-leading applications processors and system-on-chip solutions that fuel the optimal balance of programmability, performance and power for mobile devices and industrial systems.

Together with thousands of TI analog components, TI processors are helping customers realize success in the embedded vision market for applications such as automotive vision systems, video analytics cameras, digital signage, smart camera phones, robotics and more.

"We are seeing consumer demand for 'sight' in every application growing rapidly," said Niels Anderskouv, vice president, Digital Signal Processing Systems, TI. "Today, TI vision technology is changing the way people work, communicate and play. The future of that growth rests on companies that can work together to innovate, enable rapid development and provide software that allows customers to move quickly to meet that growth. We believe the Embedded Vision Alliance is a significant step in meeting that demand."

"We are delighted that TI has become a founding member of the Embedded Vision Alliance," said Jeff Bier, president of BDTI. "TI has been a pioneer in embedded vision applications, putting them in an excellent position to help EVA as we collaborate to enable the proliferation of embedded vision into hundreds of new applications."

The EVA's plans for the future include aligning on technology standards, educational programs, industry analysis, and more – all free to the public and maintained through member and industry contributions. Other founding members include Xilinx, IMS Research, Analog Devices, Apical, Avnet Electronics Marketing, CEVA, CogniVue, Freescale, National Instruments, NVIDIA, Tokyo Electron Device, MathWorks, Ximea, and XMOS.
