Pixelworks intros next-generation digital projection SoC device

SAN JOSE, USA: Pixelworks Inc., an innovative provider of powerful video and pixel processing technology, has begun sampling the PW878 as part of its Topaz family of SoCs, the most advanced and highly integrated digital projection SoC device in the industry, to leading OEMs. This device is the world’s first cost-effective 3D display processor with advanced geometry correction capabilities designed for business, education and home theatre mainstream projector solutions.

“The PW878 offers compelling capabilities by incorporating a number of advanced technologies into a single device, making it possible for our customers to offer premium features at an affordable price point,” said Bruce Walicek, president and CEO of Pixelworks.

Additionally, the PW878 offers the latest scalar technology combined with industry leading picture and video enhancement features. It integrates an HDMI 1.4 receiver, comprehensive 3D format decoding and a universal 3D-glasses interface. Its leading-edge geometric correction technology enables digital projection features, such as Snap2Fit technology, for hassle free push-button display set-up. The PW878 is capable of 3D display resolutions of up to WXGA 120Hz with configurable output format options that provide compatibility with several types of display panels.

All Topaz family products include Pixelworks’ software development kit and applications that leverage the Company’s experience in mobile, embedded and networking software. In addition, all products are backed by Pixelworks’ extensive system support, including reference board designs, and they also meet all international green packaging standards and are halogen and lead-free.
